The government of Zanzibar designed a project to improve the delivery of healthcare services on the archipelago, especially regarding maternal and newborn care. AMPC, together with SAB MedConsult, prepared the ORIO application which was selected as eligible for a grant by the Dutch government at the beginning of 2010. AMPC and its partner developed a comprehensive feasibility study. Based on site visits, a needs assessment and meetings with all stakeholders, the consortium developed the scope of services, related infrastructural works and equipment planning at Mnazi Mmoja and selected 20 primary health care units to for the project. AMPC designed preliminary architectural plans and the equipment planning. Then, the maintenance and capacity building programmes were developed as were the requirements for sustainability. The performed financial analysis gave all stakeholders a clear insight into the costs and revenues that could be expected during the implementation and operational period. AMPC also provided technical assistance with the tender, including procurement plans, evaluation criteria, evaluating the technical proposals and contracting assistance.
