- Feasibility study public hospitals

Between 1998 and 2004 Philips Healthcare and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Tanzania (MoHSW) implemented an ORET-funded project to improve diagnostic services in 98 public hospitals in Tanzania. In 2007, the government of Tanzania wanted to extend the project’s activities. Having been involved in the original project too, Philips Healthcare requested AMPC to carry out a feasibility study towards the definition of this continuation of this project. AMPC’s assignment included site visits to a selection of ten regional and district hospitals. The feasibility study included a socio-economic background study, an analysis of the epidemiological data, infrastructural and equipment needs planning, financial analysis of the project and a capacity building plan. Even though the project was found to be viable and to generate positive impact, the project has not been implemented due to the discontinuation of the ORET programme by the Dutch government. Nevertheless, the MoHSW did use the feasibility study to apply for a grant under the Dutch ORIO programme.
