In our line of business we must constantly have an open mind with respect to the situation in which we find ourselves.
Project financing
If a good business plan or feasibility study can be thought of as the sound architectural design of a building structure, then the financing or funds are its building blocks. Without financing, the best business plans, feasibility studies and ideas will remain paper reports. Therefore, AMPC always incorporates a sound financial plan into the projects we develop, and we offer additional support in the identification of financing sources.
Financing options depend on many issues. Whether the project and its owner are private or public is one of the main distinctions to be made. Another distinction is whether the project is commercially viable, for-profit, financially sustainable and/or economically viable. Financing options will also depend on the amount of financing requested, whether own funds (e.g. government budgets, private investor’s budgets) are available, whether debt financing or equity is sought, and if repayments are made using the cash flow of the project (so-called project finance). Whether your healthcare project is public or private, AMPC can help you to explore financing options and assist you in preparing the necessary project documents for your loan or grant application.

Public Projects
Depending on the nature of the project, there are a number of financing options AMPC has experience with. We have a proven track record of successful grant applications for the co-financing of public healthcare infrastructure projects under the Facility for Infrastructure Development (ORIO) of the Dutch government.

Other financing options for public healthcare projects we have experience with include programmes from various national and international development banks, such as the World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), the Arab Bank for Development in Africa (BADEA), the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Latin American Investment Facility (LAIF) of the European Commission.

Private Projects
With regard to private sector projects, other sources of financing exist. AMPC has contacts with several of the development banks who have a private sector branch such as the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Private Sector Operations Department of the Asian Development Bank (PSOD), the Private Sector Operations of the African Development Bank (PSO), and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC).

Financing the pre-feasibility study
A pre-feasibility study or preliminary business plan to determine if a project would be viable and worth pursuing further will normally have to be paid out-of-pocket by the project owner. However, when private financing is obtained, pre-operational financing can offer possibilities to have (part of) the study costs reimbursed.
